Poker is one of the most popular online card games on the internet today. This relatively simple game is played with a 52 card deck. Whether its holdem poker or 7 Card Stud it can be played with as little as 2 players going heads up to a maximum of 11 players. Standard poker hand rankings apply for this card game, straight beats 3 of a kind and so on. Below you will find a simplistic version of the texas poker rules.
Preflop: The dealer which is signified by a small circular disc or button gives each player one card face down and then the second card is dealt face down. Once each player has received their pocket or hole cards a round of betting occurs. Once all players have either checked, raised or folded the dealer lays out the 3 community cards in the center of the table, this is know as the flop.
Flop: These cards are community cards and each player may use these cards to create their best possible poker hand. Once the flop is dealt there is a second round of betting. After all the players have checked, raised or folded the 4th community card is dealt to the center of the table.
Turn: This is the 4th community card also known as 4th street. All players still in the hand have another round of betting which is typically double the first 2 rounds of betting. Once this round of betting is completed the final community card is dealt to the center of the table.
River: This is the fifth and final community card and is also known as 5th Street. Once the final card is revealed to the players, each player left in the game must make up their final 5 card poker hand consisting of their pocket cards and the 5 community cards. A final round of betting occurs with the minimum bet being twice the big blind. This is also known as the showdown.
Showdown: Now is the time for the remaining players in the hand to show their cards in order from the person who first bet and high poker hand takes the pot. From the players 2 pocket cards and the 5 community cards a player may use any combination to create the best possible poker hand. When all 5 community cards make up the best possible poker hand the pot is split equally between all the remaining players.
